Samsung’s Long-awaited Foldable Screen Smartphone Arriving In 2019
The South Korean giant Samsung is considering launching foldable smartphones for years. The president of the mobile devices division, DJ Koh, has promised a foldable Galaxy Note for 2018. However, it seems that the device stayed for the next year.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the South Korean giant Samsung plans to launch a foldable smartphone in early 2019. The prototype is codenamed “Winner” and measures 7 inches when open. The screen can be folded in half “like a wallet”, showing a small bar-shaped display on the front, in addition to the cameras at the rear.

The initial launch would be on a smaller scale for specific markets and would gain a wider debut in the second half of 2019 if it succeeds. This device could be the start of a new category of products, next to the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note.

Sources tell the WSJ that the South Korean giant Samsung wants to be the first company to produce a folding screen phone. Top executives have given this project a higher priority in recent months. The idea is to combat the weak sales of smartphones; it predicts a below-expected profit due to the Galaxy S9.
The price could “easily exceed $1,500”, however, the South Korean giant Samsung bet that the novelty factor would be enough to convince some customers.

Some companies have already launched folding smartphones, such as ZTE Axon M: it has two screens that can work as one. Now, the South Korean giant Samsung, in turn, prepares a mobile phone whose unique display can be folded in half.

We saw at CES 2013 the South Korean giant Samsung’s first concept for a smartphone that turns into a tablet. In 2015, it worked on Project Valley, which would be basically a Galaxy S6 with two screens; but it never threw it. But, is it going now?

Google has been working for at least two years on an operating system called Fuchsia. The project is handled with such discretion that it seems to be just a concept. But there is more and more evidence that the platform is being developed for a daring mission: completely replace Android and thus rid the tech giant Google of Linux and Java.

The first information about Fuchsia came in 2016 when the tech giant G

Unlike Android, Fuchsia will not have Linux as its foundation. Apparently, the operating system kernel is being developed from scratch and will be called Zircon (the previous name was Magenta). A kernel of its own should have two advantages: to help the tech giant Google get rid of conflicts with Oracle over the use of Java and allow the company to have more comprehensive control over the platform.

It is to be expected, for example, that the tech giant Google will be able to make Fuchsia receive security updates faster, more accurately support voice recognition, and advanced features faster to stay competitive with iOS.

But this is a long-term plan. In addition to the technical issues, the tech giant Google needs to address the issue with manufacturers and developers. The first device with the Fuchsia should only be released in 2021 and, if nothing goes wrong, replacing Android in smartphones should take five years, the same is true for laptops as well.

Samsung Just Launched World’s First LPDDR5 RAM, Ready For 5G
Samsung Just Launched World’s First LPDDR5 RAM, Ready For 5G
We all know very well that currently, the most powerful memory trend is the LPDDR4, capable of working at an incredibly powerful frequency and that can move any type of information without any problem. However, recently, the South Korean giant Samsung teased mind-blowing speeds from its LPDDR5 RAM.
Samsung Just Launched World’s First LPDDR5 RAM, Ready For 5G
The South Korean giant Samsung is far from just a maker of smartphones, tablets, and computers. It creates many of the components that go in these devices and however, recently, the South Korean giant Samsung just announced another version of its RAM, now in standard LPDDR5 DRAM and scoring 8GB on a single chip.

The purpose of this silicon memory is the low power consumption for devices focused on 5G, the internet of things and even with embedded artificial intelligence. The South Korean giant Samsung promises higher performance and lower power consumption compared to the LPDDR4 or LPDDR4X which is currently available in the most powerful gadgets on the market in 2018.
And To explain the speed gain, the manufacturer claims to get up to 6400 Mb/s on the new chip, compared to 4266 Mb/s in the standard used in devices already launched. With this speed, you can send 51.2 GB of data to the RAM in just one second. If you put this amount into 3.7GB Full HD movies (more or less what Netflix uses), in a second the RAM can transfer more than 13 movies.

In power consumption, the new LPDDR5 uses half of what is required to run LPDDR4 idle. Overall, the South Korean giant Samsung says that the average consumption of the new 10 nanometer DRAM is 30% lower than the current generation.

Finally, the South Korean giant, of course, Samsung has already managed to produce 8GB modules in LPDDR5, but it is still early to expect this new memory in Galaxy Note 9. It is still necessary to set the DDR5 standard to be able to mass-manufacture the new chip for all its customers, as the tech giant Apple is one of them.

The current industry standard was released in December 2013 and remains present today in handsets such as iPhone 8 Plus. The Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S9 use the LPDDR4X, launched in 2017 as the lowest power variant of LPDDR4.

Samsung Galaxy S10
Samsung Galaxy S10
The Samsung Galaxy S10 will finally introduce an in-screen fingerprint sensor in a Samsung phone, at least in two of three versions planned, according to a new report today.

The normal-sized Galaxy S10 and larger Galaxy S10 Plus are supposed to use a Fingerprint On Display (FOD), as it's technically called, says Korean site The Bell.

Samsung's 10th anniversary smartphone series is also thought to include a new entry-level model, so far unnamed and simply referred to here as Beyond 0. The S10 and S10 Plus are codenamed Beyond1 and Beyond 2, respectively.

What's interesting is that the FOD-lacking basic Galaxy S10 is reportedly moving the fingerprint sensor to the side frame, like we've seen on the Moto Z3 Play and several Sony Xperia phones.

The cheaper Samsung Galaxy phone for early 2019 is expected to include specs like a 5-inch non-dual-edge screen and a single-sensor camera, notes PhoneArena. It's shaping up to be the S10 without all of the fancy bells and whistles.

Like old times

You may soon be unlocking your Samsung phone by touching the front of the phone like old times. It's a welcome changed for long-time Samsung users, especially Galaxy S7 Edge owners who have been holding out on upgrading.

Samsung Galaxy S10
Samsung Galaxy S10
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9 series had rear fingerprint sensors and, in particular, the off-set rear sensor in the S8 and Note 8 were almost universally hated. Samsung centered the sensor pad on the S9 and S9 Plus, and is expected to do the same on the Note 9.

FOD will return the unlocking action to the front of the phone, something we've seen on Vivo phones in 2018, including the new Vivo Nex. But Samsung is thought to be using very different ultrasonic fingerprint sensor technology from Qualcomm, whereas the Vivo phones use reflected light for fingerprint recognition.

The trio of Samsung Galaxy S10 phones is likely to launch at MWC 2019 in February 2019, while the foldable Samsung Galaxy X is rumored for a CES 2019 debut one month sooner in January.

Our Verdict:

You won't find a bigger and better Android phone than the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, thanks to its oversized 6.2-inch curved screen and low-light-defeating dual-lens camera. Sure, it looks exactly like last year's S8 Plus, but it does fix the fingerprint sensor location (it's now center-aligned on the back) and speakers (now stereo). The new AR Emoji mode is overrated, though, and its higher price is tough to justify. This is for people who want the biggest screen and the best camera on one phone.

+ FOR

  • Impressive dual-lens camera
  • Better-placed fingerprint sensor
  • Loud stereo speakers

 - AGAINST

  • Not all that different to S8 Plus
  • AR Emoji mode is overrated
  • Expensive for 0.4 inches of extra screen
