Sony To Reduce Focus On Mobile business In Pursuit Of Profits
Sony To Reduce Focus On Mobile business In Pursuit Of Profits
A couple of days ago, Sony announced the financial report for the fiscal year 2017 as of March 31, 2018. The financial report shows that Sony’s revenue for the fiscal year 2017 was 8.544 trillion yen ($78 billion), an increase of 12.4% year-on-year; operating profit was 734.9 billion yen ($6.74 billion), a year-on-year increase of 154.5%, which is a record. The Game & Network Services, Semiconductors, and Financial Services have become the biggest contributors, while the Mobile Communications has been dragged down. According to the source, Sony’s mobile business had sales of 723.7 billion yen ($6.64 billion) in the fiscal year 2017 and operating profit loss of 27.6 billion yen ($25 million). So the company has made a decision to reduce the focus on its mobile business in pursuit of profits.

Actually, Sony announced it is going to downsize the overall scale of the Xperia brand 5 years ago. Starting 2016 the manufacturer has begun making premium devices with its Xperia X line. At the same time, it began cutting the low-end models from its range. This temporarily provided higher profit margins and allowed for a number of positive quarters. But the latest report shows even this strategy doesn’t justify itself. Therefore, the company’s decision to downsize the mobile business in an effort to increase profitability.
Now Sony is not blaming foreign exchange rates for the unit’s loss. It is downsizing the business to make significant savings in terms of operating costs. This also means the Xperia XA line handsets will be cut down, and the company will focus on making flagships only. So we can assume only the Sony Xperia XZ will remain in production.
PhoneArena has also revealed that Sony expects to sell 10 million Xperia devices in the fiscal year 2018. This will be quite less in comparison to 2017’s 13.5 million and 2016’s 14.6 million units.

SAMSUNG GALAXY A6 AND A6+RENDERS REVEAL FULL-SCREEN DESIGN
SAMSUNG GALAXY A6 AND A6+RENDERS REVEAL FULL-SCREEN DESIGN
Recently, we have been getting too many leaks and rumors concerning the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6+. As you know, these handsets have already got certified by FCC. This simply means the phones are almost ready to enter the US market. Although, it’s been rumored the South Korean manufacturer is going to release the A6 and A6+ in certain markets only. They include Russia, Europe, and the Middle East. Well, regardless what regions they are focusing on, all the leaks and certifications confirm we’ll see them in the nearest future. But until today, we haven’t seen any photo revealing their appearance. That’s why we can’t say whether the renders published today look realistic or not.

Too little is known about the Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6+, but we have heard the regular model will be using a 5.6-inch full-screen, an own-made Exynos 7870, and a 3+32GB memory combination. Its sibling, the Samsung Galaxy A6+ will come with a 6-inch screen with a resolution of 1080×2220 pixels, a Snapdragon 625 chip, and a 4GB of RAM.

According to this information, we can state both models are positioning in the low-end markets. In this sense, it’s quite reasonable to see a micro USB port on the bottom. But many A-line smartphone users will be disappointed when hearing this because the previous models from this series have comes with a USB Type-C interface.
The manufacturer hasn’t come with an official announcement concerning its launch date, but the FCC certification hints the Samsung Galaxy A6 and A6+ should come in a few months. Usually, it takes 2-3 months after visiting FCC.

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to roll out Android Oreo 8.1
Samsung is planning to enroll Android 8.0 (Oreo) for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. Two weeks ago, both the devices were certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance running the newest version of Android. And all the major US variants have now been certified with Oreo as well. This development comes after SamMobile reported that carriers operating in North America. This clears that Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge is soon getting Android Oreo Update. So, "Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are rolling out Android Oreo Soon".

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Android 8.1 Update:

Android 8.0 Oreo was released by Google for its Pixel and Nexus-branded devices in August last year. Eight months after its release, the update is yet to make its way to most smartphones including flagship devices. The latest Android distribution numbers revealed that Android Oreo has a market share of just under 5 percent.

The report suggests that Samsung Turkey had previously revealed that an Android Oreo OTA Update. The update was in the testing phase for these two smartphones with an expected lunch on 13th April. While that date has now passed, these new spottings reaffirm a rollout in the next few days, at least in the US. As always, the rollout will be incremental in nature and not all users will get it in one go. The update will be released in a phased manner. India will definitely be among the markets to get Android Oreo on the Galaxy S7 series.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell exactly when the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge Oreo update will start rolling out. Samsung Turkey’s official schedule had suggested April 13 as the ETA, and while that date has now passed, one can certainly hope the update will be released before the month is over. As usual, not everyone will get the update at the same time as it will be released in a phased manner in different countries. With added delays for models locked to carriers and network operators in some regions (including the US).
