Dept. of Labor claims Google's pay disparities are 'systemic'
After suing Google for not releasing employment data, the US Department of Labor now claims pay disparities between men and women are widespread throughout the company. Although Google claims it has successfully closed its gender pay gap, Labor department officials testified in court in San Francisco today that Google may have violated federal employment laws, the Guardian reports. According to regional director Janette Wipper, the department found "systemic compensation disparities against women pretty much across the entire workforce."

Today's hearing was part of the Department of Labor's lawsuit against the search giant that started in January. As a federal contractor, Google is required to hand over employment records to the government, but the company has repeatedly refused, claiming that the records request were too broad and invaded their employee's privacy.

While Google has been slowly inching towards diversity and many tech giants have pledged to close the gender pay gap, the Department of Labor has been cracking down on discrimination of all sorts in the industry. Earlier this year the department sued Oracle for allegedly conducting discriminatory employment practices.

Microsoft opens up its Windows Insider preview for Business
Microsoft opens up its Windows Insider preview for Business
Since Microsoft launched its Insider Program a few years ago, millions of people have signed up to test out upcoming versions of Windows 10 on their devices. One small issue, however, was a limitation forcing users to sign up with their personal accounts, even though many users either work in IT or have business laptops/software they need to test out. Now, following up on an announcement from February, Microsoft has opened up the Windows Insider for Business program, so people can sign in with an Azure Active Directory account (the used for stuff like Office 365).

You will need admin rights on your machine to start testing out preview builds, so look out for that. Still, since the point of this program is to find any incompatibilities or issues before a wide release, getting permission and access may not be that hard. Microsoft says more tools for businesses are on the way -- a necessary thing if it wants corporate environments to pick up the pace on upgrades from older versions of its operating system.

Oh, and even if you're not a business user, there's a new Preview build available to test -- Redstone 3 awaits this fall -- while most folks wait (or, don't wait) for Windows 10 Creators Update to start rolling out on April 11th.

Report: Surface Pro 5 gets new CPUs but keeps the proprietary power connector
Report: Surface Pro 5 gets new CPUs but keeps the proprietary power connector
The Surface Pro 4 was released about a year-and-a-half ago, and even though new processors are available, it didn't make an appearance along with the Surface Studio and other hardware updates in October of 2016. Longtime Microsoft pundit Paul Thurrott has some news about the Surface Pro 5, an update he says will change "nothing dramatic" about the convertible.

According to Thurrott, the Surface Pro 5 will keep its proprietary Surface Connect power connector instead of switching to USB-C charging, though it's worth noting that there are already computers out there that include a proprietary power jack and support for USB-C charging if you have an adapter. He also says that the tablet will use new Kaby Lake processors from Intel, though this isn't much of a surprise.

Thurrott has no news to share on the tablet's design, ports, or release date. Rumors have suggested that Microsoft is planning some sort of hardware event for the spring, but a minor Surface Pro bump may not be able to carry an event like this on its own. ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley says a Surface Book 2 isn't in the cards (though the "Performance Base" that was released a few months ago serves as a midstream refresh of sorts); the Lumia phone lineup has been discontinued, ostensibly in favor of a "Surface Phone" that may never see the light of day; the Surface Studio is still fresh; and the Microsoft Band has been canceled altogether.

When releasing accessories for the Surface Pro 3, including the Type Cover, its docking station, and its Ethernet adapter, Microsoft promised that the accessories would also maintain compatibility with whatever the next-generation Surface Pro was (and, as a side benefit, many Surface Pro 4 accessories also work with Surface Pro 3). If the Surface Pro 5 is truly just a minor speed bump for the existing design, it could be compatible with accessories for both.

Google Accidentally ‘Confirms’ New Pixel 2

The Nexus range was able to combine two concepts: accessibility in terms of price and simplicity in its possibilities and its result was enviable. This series of Google in collaboration with various manufacturers like LG or Nexus triumphed on its own.

The arrival of Pixel cost to assimilate for its high cost but pleased analysts to offer very high benefits. But after the initial boom, these smart mobile phones have not reached many regional markets and everything points to a reason: the second version is on the way.

As revealed by the specialized media “Android Police“, known in part for its constant successes on the movements of the industry, the American multinational has allegedly revealed by mistake the new versions of the Pixel range. It is suspected that the Pixel 2 will change the design of the current mobile and will add to the new trend of giant screens in the style of LG G6 or Samsung Galaxy S8.

Under the code names “Muskie” and “Walleye”, the existence of the next devices has been located hidden through the source code of the Android operating system, which has increased the hypotheses about the possibility that the American company Google accelerates the plans In the launch of its new devices.

Google vice president, Rick Osterloh, confirmed last March that this year the new generation of the series would be launched, the Pixel 2. It has also transpired that in addition to the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, Google will launch a third mobile, Pixel 3, whose first hypotheses highlight the intention to compete in the tight category of the mid-range.

So, what do you think about this new Pixel 2? Simply share your views and thoughts in the comment section below.
