The police in Bayelsa State have arrested an armed robbery suspect and recovered arms and ammunition in the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, DSP Asinim Butswat, said the suspect was apprehended on Tuesday about 2.30pm.
Butswat said on Wednesday that the arrest was effected by a surveillance team of the anti-kidnapping unit of the command through a tip-off by a concerned citizen.
Butswat, who gave the name of the suspect as Festus Solomon, 22 years, said he was arrested inside a Jetta salon car with number plate EFR 24 AA, parked along Sani Abacha Expressway, in Yenagoa, the state capital.
He said during the arrest, two locally-made pistols loaded with two cartridges and 11 live cartridges concealed in a woven cap were recovered from the vehicle.
The spokesman said the suspect confessed that he and other accomplices on the run came from Delta State to carry out an operation.
“The suspect confessed that he with one Kess, surname unknown, and three others came from Delta State to carry out an operation in Bayelsa State. Efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects. Investigation is ongoing,” Butswat stated.
